Sloppy Joes, also known as BBQ Beef Baps is the best ever ! Ready in 20 – 25 minutes and perfect for lunch, a light dinner or on game day
This Sloppy Joes recipe is my go-to recipe which I make when I am in a hurry or just don’t feel like spending a lot of time in the kitchen.
It also helps that the whole family just loves them !
What goes into a homemade Sloppy Joes mix ? (Scroll down for the printable recipe card as well as the nutritional values)
INGREDIENTS for the Sloppy Joes:
- 2 TB Vegetable Oil
- 675 g Lean Ground Beef, ( 1 1/2 pounds )
- 2 Onions finely, chopped
- 2 Green Bell Peppers, sliced thinly
- 2 t Fresh Garlic, crushed
- 1/3 cup Dark Brown Sugar
- 2 TB Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 TB Mustard
- 3/4 cup Tomato Sauce, ( thick ketch-up )
- 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- Salt and Pepper, to taste
- 8 Hamburger Buns, ( Baps )
HOW TO MAKE Sloppy Joes:
- Heat the Oil in a large skillet – cook the ground Beef until done – drain if necessary – remove from skillet and keep aside
- Add a little more Oil (if needed) and saute the Onion, Green Bell Peppers and Garlic until soft but not brown
- Combine the Dark Brown Sugar, Worcestershire Sauce, Mustard, Tomato Sauce and Cider Vinegar – add to the vegetables in the skillet – Cook over low heat for 3 – 5 minutes
- Add the cooked Ground Beef to the mixture in the skillet – stir through – season to taste with Salt and Pepper
- Heat through gently (not too long – only until heated through)
- Spoon the BBQ Beef onto the Hamburger buns and serve
Now and then I will make this in the morning if I have a busy afternoon and just leave it till dinner time. A quick re-heat and all is fine, the Meat does not dry out – as long as it is kept covered.
I really love this recipe because it is not too saucy, but definitely not dry.
And of course, dinner (or lunch) is on the table in 20 – 25 minutes. Now that is a winner, right ?
