Apple Pie Dump Cake

This Apple Pie Dump Cake is perfect to bake when you are short on time. A Pie and Cake (serve warm or cold) all in one and no frosting needed !

Apple Pie Dump Cake

You will make this cake, or pie if you wish, over and over again !

This Apple Pie Dump Cake is super convenient to make for dessert during the week.

I am always tempted to just grab an apple pie from the shelves at the supermarket on a week day.

However, nothing beats a homemade pie or cake for that matter !

And two desserts in one ? Winner all the way.

Apple Pie Dump Cake

If you think of this specific dessert as a cake you will notice there is no frosting ! Why ? Because the cake is really leaning more towards being a pie.

My personal favorite topping on a warm apple pie is double cream (not whipped, plain, as is).

Hubby and the kids are between whipped cream and ice-cream, sometimes both !

Apple Pie Cake

I prefer to serve the Apple Pie Dump Cake warm, but it is just as delicious cold.  Makes a great morning snack IF you have any leftovers.

Dense apple cake or more like an apple pie ?

Depending on how I feel, the cake turns out very dense (by cutting the apple pieces a lot smaller).

Or leave the apple pieces in bigger chunks (however, still cut a little smaller) and it would turn out less dense.

This of course is to your personal preferences.

Ingredients

  • 1 can 765 grams Apple Pie Filling ( 21 oz )
  • 1 box White Cake Mix ( 16.5 oz ), (or Yellow cake mix)
  • 3 extra-large Eggs
  • ½ cup Vegetable OIl
  • cup Chopped Walnuts
  • ¼ cup Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 t Ground Cinnamon

Instructions

  • Pre-heat the oven to 180 deg C (350 deg F) - spray a 23 x 33cm (9 x 13 inch) baking dish with cooking oil
  • Using a large mixing bowl empty the canned Apple Pie Filling - use a spoon to rougly slice pieces smaller (see notes)
  • Add Cake Mix, Eggs and Oil - beat a minute until well blended. Spread batter in baking dish
  • In a small bowl mix together the Walnuts, Sugar and Cinnamon - sprinkle over the batter
  • Bake 40 - 45 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  • Cool in baking dish at least 15 minutes before serving

Notes

  • I slice the apple segments fairly small and with the beating it creates a delicious dense, moist cake
  • Serve with whipped cream, ice-cream or custard ( warm or cold is just as delicious)
