Cheesy Gnocchi Bolognaise

With A Blast : Cheesy Gnocchi Bolognaisse

This is a delicious way of serving Gnocchi - as a topping for a Bolognaise dish!

But first, I'd like to share a photo which was taken yesterday on Mother's Day

The other day I received a comment on one of the recipes I shared - in short it was something like this: "I am a chef .... you never add green bell pepper to Beef Stroganoff ... it is also NOT made from scratch .. {I used a pre-mixed packet of Stroganoff} ..." - right so blah, blah,,,, and I could not reply as said CHEF preferred to leave the comment anonymously - of course!  No, I do not think it was a spammer, as there were no links or anything to trick you into going to their site.

First off, I cook for my family, I will use whatever I like, use any short-cuts when needed, add or leave out an ingredient which normally goes, or does not, with a recipe. As long as my family enjoys the food I serve to them, I couldn't be bothered about what chefs learn when they go study. {That's why we go to restaurants, btw}.  If I wanted to be a precise chef, I would have studied to be one - but I am a mother and wife, sharing simple recipes which we like and of course tweak the way I want to.  And, the "from scratch" remark - oh that's a good one! I never mentioned the dish is made from scratch ... what I did mention in the post regarding "scratch" was that one of my pans is/might be scratched ...??? 

Chef, I think, if all chefs cook the same recipe the same way, always, many would lose customers, and where is the creativity of each individual chef?  A last thing, you got the scratch part wrong ...mmm, makes me wonder whether you can actually read and have passed your exams .....

Sorry, people, I needed to vent a little, as in this recipe I am yet AGAIN using a pre-mixed packet, as well as a store-bought packet of Gnocchi.  And I can assure you, we enjoyed our meal!


{6 servings}

1 TB Olive Oil
1 Onion, chopped finely
2 t Garlic, crushed
750g Lean Ground Beef   {Mince}
2 cups store-bought or homemade Bolognaise Sauce  {I used the Knorr brand}
600g Packet Gnocchi
1 cup Cheddar Cheese, grated

1.) Pre-heat the oven to 200 deg C (400 deg F) - spray a 20 x 30cm oven dish with cooking spray.
2.) Heat the Oil and saute the Onion and Garlic until soft - add the Ground Beef and cook until done - add the Bolognaise sauce - (cook according to the instructions on your brand or how you would normally if using homemade).
3.) Cook the Gnocchi according to the packet's instructions {usually 3 minutes}
4.) Spoon the Bolognaise mixture into the prepared oven dish - top with the Gnocchi - sprinkle the Cheddar over - bake 20 minutes until bubbly and the cheese has melted.

Serve with side dishes or salads.

  4. I am with you Linda! Maybe anonymous should try adding green pepper to his/her beef stroganoff! I'm adding it to my next stroganoff in your honor! Never let anyone stifle your creativity!

  6. Hope you had a Happy Mothers Day Linda. And btw my mom (and me now) added green pepper to her stroganoff. Maybe its a South African thing? Anyway I cant image mine without it! I dont allow anonymous comments to my blog anymore too . Comments like that mean you've hit the big time now !

  7. Aw...look how cute you all look!! I love it! As for the nasty comment, well, some people are just super unhappy and for some reason want to make others join in their misery by being rude. I love and have tried many of your recipes and we've enjoyed them all, so just ignore that sad persons comments. I just learned about gnocchi this year and we like to have it fried crispy!
