Sweet Chili Paw-Paw (Papaya) and Pineapple Salad

Many South-Africans I know, enjoy a slice or three of Paw-Paw with their dinner. Only the Paw-Paw – it is added as a side dish.

Or I suppose one could call it salad, but with only one ingredient, I am not sure that qualifies as a salad.

Sweet Chili Paw-Paw and Pineapple Salad

Anyhow, to be a little fancier, or to actually want a salad in the full sense of the word, we like a fruity salad.

Especially when we have a BBQ, add some Pineapple, Onions and a few more ingredients and you have a delicious, colorful salad.

There is quite a bit of chopping and cubing in this Paw-Paw and Pineapple Salad, but after that is done, it is toss together and serve.

Best served ice cold !

I like to serve this salad ice-cold. The colder the better, not sure why, but Paw-Paw just taste much better when well chilled.

One thing I remember my kids doing when they were little, was to push all the Bell Pepper to the side, they never liked it raw, but since they are older (and a bit wiser !), both love this salad as is with all the ingredients.

Sweet Chili Paw-Paw (Papaya) and Pineapple Salad

A little tidbit about Paw-Paw and me : when I was expecting my daughter – many moons ago – a colleague of mine at the time, was also pregnant were her first baby.

Let me tell you, it is not a good thing putting two pregnant women together all day. We had Paw-Paw almost every day for lunch… now you might think, that’s okay. No it was not okay ! We had a large Paw-Paw, sliced in half, all seeds removed and filled with ice-cream ! Ice-cream, of all things for lunch … so not good for the figure, never mind the growing tummies !
