Scented Hanger

Scented Hanger ~ Perfect DIY Gift for Mothers Day ! Hang in the closet or on the wall for a lovely fragrance #MothersDay #DIYGift

I made this scented hanger today for my Mother-in-law as a Mother's Day gift.  She is at that stage where a handmade gift means more than something bought. Don't get me wrong, she loves anything her kids and grandkids give her.

Between Roy and myself, she is the only parent left.  We do not see her often, but that might change now.  My sister-in-law bought a new apartment which was in quite a bad shape, but they got it at a bargain price and I can see they just love giving the place a make-over. So, I am sure this would come in handy when she starts decorating her room.

This hanger can be hung inside a closet, between the clothes, or on the wall/closet door, hence me prettying it up a little!

This is some of what I used:

Plastic White Hanger
Pink and White Satin Roses
Pink Fabric
White Lacey Fabric for the bottom
A Butterfly
Essential Oil

Sewing and I are NOT friends, so I will tell you what I did, but no photos as anyone who actually do know what they are doing, would be horrified if they'd seen what/how I did this !

1.) I placed the hanger on a piece of tracing paper and cut it a little bigger {a border all round about two centimeters - just less than one inch}
2.) The pink fabric were cut according to the tracing paper {2 pieces - front and back}
3.) First double seamed each piece {to be neat} and then I sewed the two pieces together and added the white strip at the bottom {all round the two pieces, but kept open for the hanger to slip in and out).
4.) I hand sewed the roses and butterfly to the pink fabric.

5.) I used one cotton ball, pulled apart a bit and added just two or three drops of essential oil {this stuff is strong! - rather start with a little and add more later}

6.) The top little piece was also left open a) to push the hanger "hook" through and b) to easily change the cotton ball or add more essential oil as she prefers.

7.) A tiny safety pin keeps the top closed {where the scented cotton wool piece has been inserted} This is hidden behind the pink rose.

Note the rounding {insert} of this particular hanger - the cotton wool "rests" on this rounding and as the fabric is stretched tight {I shook it to test} the cotton ball stayed in place.

I also left the bottom open to make it easy to remove, should she want to wash the cover.

Whilst digging through my stash, I found another Mother's Day gift which I made two years ago when I still had a craft stall at a local market {obviously did not sell, and I stuffed it away for the next Mother's Day ... and of course forgot about it!}

  13. I have a problem in my house that this would help! The close in our drawers and closets are so stinky after a while. In particular the drawers. Maybe they shouldn't be stuffed so full.

  14. I am in love with this idea Linda! Like Diana said I find that the clothes get a stale smell after hanging in the closet for a while. This is the perfect fix for that. Pinned it!!

  15. So cool, reminds me of my grans cupboards, pretty and smelling amazing.
