Painted & Wallpapered Cabinet

With A Blast: Painted & Wallpapered Cabinet {paint your wallpaper the color of your color scheme!} #diy #furniturepainting #paintprojects

This is another one of the furniture pieces I got {for free} from my sister-in-law when they moved into their new apartment - not sure whether this cabinet was left behind by the previous people or if it is just something my sister-in-law did not want anymore {although I don't think it is the latter - this really looked like junk when she gave it to me - see next photo}

With A Blast

Really ugly piece ! {but I wanted it ! - go figure ...} This photo was taken on the day when she dropped it off at my house - an old magazine and all in the bottom. You can see that there used to be 4 drawers but I only received two - not a problem - bigger space for something else in the bottom.

Now, the above and the next photo shows the most hideous kind of "pressed wood" { ? } I have ever seen! It is more like a grass sort of thing  {anyone knows what this really is? - let me know if you do!}
Anyhow, painting this was not the answer {not to me with my limited paint experience, anyways}

With A Blast

The top and the sides are made of the same kind of compressed wood/grass - very strong however.  There were a gash or two here and there but other than that, still fine for another few years.

So, painting was out and I remembered the wallpaper I used on a couple of other projects in different ways {see the 1st one below} - I had a fair amount of the roll left - Voila! Sides and top will get wallpapered.

With A Blast - Wallpaper/Painted Storage

The above is my {one of them!} craft storages - here I used the wallpaper on the sides of the old bookcase and made a stencil which I used to paint the curtain in front using fabric paint - Read the post HERE if you are interested.

Okay, that's sorted - BUT .. the colors are all wrong for where I intend to use this cabinet - now what?? - Paint the Wallpaper ! Of course, so that's what I did - painted yellow over the brown where the arrows indicate.  The rest of the cabinet was painted in blue and we added two long bar handles - one to each drawer.

With A Blast - JOE

Joe wanted so see what I was doing and well, if you look closely, you'll see he got a dot of yellow paint on his nose !
