Stretch Canvas Chalk Headboard

Stretch Canvas Chalk Headboard ~ Easy DIY Chalk Headboard depicting a star sign and fairy lights used to light up ! #DIY #Headboards #ChalkProjects

Cheri's room needs a make-over. A Real allover makeover, but seeing as she is only using this room one, maybe two nights over weekends, I do not want to put too much money into the room. Especially since the room they have now, is worth thousands - new furniture, bedding and the whole caboodle.

A Couple of weeks ago, I came across a sale on stretch canvases at our local hardware store, who also keep some arts and crafts supplies. And here we have her new Stretch Canvas Chalk Headboard. {Other changes will follow, but in small bits}

I know she likes black and neon colors, but I had no idea what to do with the headboard - I already had it in mind to apply Chalkboard Spray Paint which I had left from a previous project.

Oh, and starry lights ! After a couple of weeks mulling this over in my head, I finally decided to use her Star Sign - Sagittarius - and after looking at various Zodiac signs {which I actually know nothing about!} I decided on the design pictured.

See, now who can walk past a sale like this WAS : 220.00   NOW : 20.00 !  Not me, anyway ! {Btw, I also bought a bigger one for the same price ;-)  }

I drew a rough sketch {printer is on the blink :/  } of the alignment of the sign/stars and then asked Roy to enlarge it to fit onto and into the center of the canvas.

We made some marks of spots which needed more than one light - clusters of stars in the sign - to which Roy then made small holes, just big enough for a small fairy light to fit through. Only then did he spray paint the canvas two coats.   {We used Rust-O-Leum's CHALKBOARD black}

I left the canvas overnight and then painted the connecting lines in a light violet color. We pushed through the lights from the back, securing them with a hot glue gun.

All that was left - Cheri's name, as well as Sagittarius, which I wrote freehand using white chalk. I also made random crosses {supposedly small stars to be seen during daylight} and made some bigger stars - also with the chalk - to highlight where there are "clusters" of stars.

And .... up on the wall - plugged in and switched on !  Bonus - she can always erase the chalk and write whatever she likes ;-)
