Storage Containers {Craftroom Part 1}

Storage Containers ~ Recycle old cans and cardboard boxes and make these lovely Containers ! #Recycling #Storage #Organizing
I finally have a room available in the house to be used as a craftroom !  At the moment all my craft supplies are stored in various spots in the house.  Jacobus left a very nice student desk with an additional book shelf, which fits on top of the desk, as well as his bed {more on the bed in another post!}

Anyhow, the shelves are open and for the moment I'd like to keep it that way {we live in a very dusty area, so we'll see how long I can keep it clean all the time ;-)  } Now, all the supplies are either in drawers, a shelving unit with a curtain in front, and a huge cabinet - so it was okay to leave everything in their ugly containers, as it was hidden.

But now a lot of stuff will be moved to the open shelves and I needed {start!} to make some storage containers which looks a little better. I do not have money for all these modern fancy stuff and besides, I am a crafting blogger - so I started crafting !

The above and next photos were taken on the shelves in the new craftroom, but the light is really bad there .. see all the shadows behind the containers !

For the above I used various sizes empty tin cans - wrapped them with self-adhesive thin vinyl {I love the grainy look!}

Left : added some jute and a small silver buckle
Center : here I wrapped a strip of the rougher type burlap around the can and added a wooden butterfly
Right : some more jute here, with two delicate greenish/gold leafs and a paper flower

I have many of these cardboard boxes and wrapped these three in wallpaper I had left {that roll seems to last forever!}
Made some tags and stuck it onto the boxes
Lastly I added a flower to each box - see below

I got this new toy and I'm trying out all sorts of crafts with it - This specific loom is mainly used to make the above flowers, but there are many other uses for it as well, which I am already busy with a few projects.

Left : A simple white wool flower with a string of burlap threaded through the center
Center : I gave fabric a try and oh wow! I never thought it would turn out this nicely - I cut strips of fabric about 1.5cm {1/2 inch} wide x about 4 meters long {I left the pieces of loose thread as is} - after I finished the flower on the loom, I hot glued a small piece of burlap to the center
Right : All jute - the flower and the center

And this is only the tip of the iceberg - loads of stuff is waiting to be sorted, packed and re-arranged.

So, if you are wondering what a loom is - see above ! in this pic I am halfway done with a flower.

The wool and jute flowers took me about 5 minutes each to make, but the fabric took a little longer as it was much thicker/bulkier to work with - but so worth it !!

In the above pic I had finished the petals part of the flower - now at this point one can change the color to have a different center - I haven't bothered with this yet - just used the same string of wool and finished the center with the same color.

ps: I now also have a long straight double row loom and I am busy with a lovely project, but it is taking some time before I can share that one with you.

  4. It's so great to get a craft room. I have a scrapbook/craft room and I love it. Your containers are really cute. If I am not using my room it looks great. As soon as a start working in it, it looks like a tornado hit. It seems I have to have everything out to do any work. Oh well, that's the way I work!
